Hard Drive Types
Hard Drive (HDD)
- Low cost
- Low speed (Read/Write)
- Stores information on spinning disks and magnetic strips
- Contains magnetic bits
- Destroying the disk via magnets is called Degaussing
- Speed measured in RPM (Rotations per Minute)
- Common speeds
- 5400 RPM
- 7200 RPM
- 10000 RPM
- Good for things like photos or backups of unimportant files
- Vulnerable to magnets
Solid State Memory (SSD)
- Use flash memory
- Same type used in USB Drives
- Good for OS
- Compared to HDD
- Not susceptible to Deguassing
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
- Responsible for providing power to all components of the device
